Get ready for some Strictly Come Dancing drama!
This weekend, the iconic ballroom show returned with a bang as the celebrities and their professional partners took to the floor for Icons Week. But despite the glittering tributes to music legends, the highest score achieved was a modest 34.
The top spot went to actor Lewis Cope and his partner Katya Jones, who wowed the judges with their quickstep to Johnny Cash's 'Ring of Fire'. Meanwhile, George Clarke and Alexis Warr found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard after their jive to Harry Styles' 'As It Was' failed to impress.
And in a bittersweet moment, long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman addressed their upcoming departure from the show, set to take place at the end of this season. Daly shared, "Just before we get started, Claudia and I announced this week that this will be our last series of Strictly Come Dancing." Winkleman added, "We want to thank you for your beautiful messages. We've got another eight weeks, but it's not about us. It's about this incredible show and crowning a Strictly champion."
So, who dominated the leaderboard in Week 5? Let's dive in:
- Lewis Cope and Katya Jones - 34 (9+9+8+8)
- Vicky Pattison and Kai Widdrington - 33 (8+8+8+9)
- Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin - 33 (8+8+8+9)
- Alex Kingston and Johannes Radebe - 32 (7+8+8+9)
- Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Karen Hauer - 30 (6+9+7+8)
- Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Lauren Oakley - 30 (7+8+7+8)
- Karen Carney and Carlos Gu - 28 (7+7+7+7)
- Ellie Goldstein and Vito Coppola - 28 (6+8+7+7)
- Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon - 28 (7+7+7+7)
- La Voix and Aljaž Škorjanec - 28 (6+7+7+8)
- George Clarke and Alexis Warr - 27 (6+7+6+8)
But here's where it gets controversial... When we combine the scores from Weeks 1, 2, and 3, we see a different picture of the overall leaderboard. Lewis Cope and Katya Jones take the lead with a combined score of 92, followed closely by Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin with 91. George Clarke and Alexis Warr are currently in third place with 85 points.
And this is the part most people miss... The leaderboard can change drastically from week to week, so it's anyone's game! Who do you think will take the crown this season? Let us know in the comments, and don't forget to catch up on all the Strictly action on BBC iPlayer.
