Discover Thailand: New Direct Flights from Kazakhstan with SCAT Airlines (2026)

Get ready for an exciting development in the world of travel and connectivity! Central Asia and Thailand are now more connected than ever, thanks to a new direct flight service that has everyone talking.

Last week, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) celebrated the launch of SCAT Airlines' Shymkent-Bangkok route, a twice-weekly service that bridges the gap between these two vibrant regions. With representatives from Kazakhstan, Thailand, and SCAT Airlines in attendance, the press launch highlighted the potential for increased tourism and cultural exchange.

But here's where it gets controversial: Chiravadee Khunsub, TAT's Deputy Governor for International Marketing, believes Central Asia is a high-potential market for Thailand, and the new route, along with Thailand's tourist visa exemption, will make it even more attractive. With stays of up to 30 days extendable to 60, it's an enticing offer for Kazakh travelers.

SCAT Airlines is operating this route with a Boeing 737-800, offering 176 economy seats for a comfortable journey. The flight schedule is convenient, with departures from Shymkent on Mondays and Thursdays and returns from Bangkok on Tuesdays and Fridays, a total flight time of just over six hours.

The new Shymkent-Bangkok route complements existing air links, including services by Air Astana, SCAT Airlines, and AirAsia, providing more options for travelers and supporting access to Thailand's key destinations.

Kazakhstan has always been an important source market for Thailand, and the post-pandemic rebound has been impressive. With over 195,000 Kazakh visitors in 2024, a 13.10% increase from the previous year, it's clear that the market is thriving.

From January to December 2025, Thailand has already welcomed over 150,000 visitors from Kazakhstan, and this growth is expected to continue with the expanded flight network and eased visa access.

SCAT Airlines' expansion into Central Asia and Thailand is a significant move, adding over 10 new destinations across Asia and Europe in 2025 alone. With its hub at Shymkent International Airport, the airline is poised to strengthen travel flows and economic ties between these regions.

So, what do you think? Is this new route a game-changer for travel between Central Asia and Thailand? Will it encourage more cultural exchange and economic growth? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
