The political landscape of Bihar is abuzz with activity as the NDA's victory in the state elections has set the stage for a new government. A day after their triumph, NDA leaders flocked to Nitish Kumar's residence, signaling the beginning of intense discussions on government formation.
Nitish Kumar, the incumbent Chief Minister of Bihar, is set to resign on Monday, paving the way for a fresh start. A senior JD(U) official confirmed that Nitish will preside over the final cabinet meeting of the outgoing government before submitting his resignation to the governor at Raj Bhavan. Subsequently, he will convene a meeting with the newly elected 85 JD(U) legislators, followed by a separate gathering of NDA legislators, the details of which are yet to be finalized.
The BJP, emerging as the largest bloc within the NDA with 89 legislators, is expected to make a formal announcement regarding government formation on Sunday or Monday. Sources indicate that NDA legislators will swiftly elect Nitish as their leader once the BJP's statement is issued. A senior NDA functionary hinted that the oath-taking ceremony for the new government will likely take place on Wednesday or Thursday.
Patna witnessed a steady stream of political visitors at Nitish's home from early morning. Union Minister and LJP(RV) president Chirag Paswan met with Nitish to discuss the formation of the new dispensation. More than two dozen senior functionaries from NDA allies, including Union Minister Lalan Singh, paid their respects to Nitish.
In a strategic move, all five NDA constituents - BJP, JDU, LJP(RV), HAM(S), and RLM - initiated government-formation exercises on Saturday. Discussions on strategy and portfolio allocation dominated the day in both New Delhi and Patna.
JDU's national working president, Sanjay Kumar Jha, and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Jha and Lalan Singh held further discussions with Nitish before departing for the national capital to brief Shah.
In another part of Patna, Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, met with RLM president Upendra Kushwaha and his four MLAs. After the meeting, Rai declared that the NDA had achieved a "massive victory" and that the opposition Mahagathbandhan had been "wiped out." He attributed this success to the collective effort of the alliance.
