2025 Raleigh Rumble Day 1: Shackley Moves Up To 3rd in the Country in 100 Fly and 100 Back
The 2025 Raleigh Rumble kicked off on Friday with some fast swimming from all three teams. The first day of the meet saw a morning and evening session along with two time trial sessions and an Open Water event that was listed on the NC State website as "1,800ish".
Morning Session
Women
- NC State dominated the morning session, taking top spots in all four 50 events in the prelims.
- Tyler Driscoll won the 50 fly in a school record swim of 23.18.
- Leah Shackley won the 50 back in 23.66.
- Eneli Jefimova set a new school record time to win the 50 breast prelims at 26.30.
- Cassie Moses won the 50 free in 22.11, just off her season best of 22.02.
- Mila Nikanorov of Ohio State won the women's 1000 freestyle in 9:35.62.
- Erika Pelaez of NC State swam her 2nd event of the morning, winning the women's 200 backstroke in 1:51.32.
- Pelaez also won the 100 IM later in the session, touching in 54.08.
- Eneli Jefimova picked up her 2nd "win" of the session for the Wolfpack with her 2:08.86 in the 200 breaststroke.
- Leah Shackley took the win at 1:55.61 in the women's 200 fly, her best time from the DMT at 1:54.86.
- NC State women also won the 400 medley relay, touching in a school record of 3:28.89.
Men
- NC State and Virginia Tech split the top spots in the first round of 50 knockouts.
- Aiden Hayes won the 50 fly in 20.83.
- Quintin McCarty won the 50 back in 20.98.
- Eli Martin won the 50 breast in 24.37.
- Brendan Whitfield won the 50 free in 19.01.
- Daniel Diehl won the men's 200 backstroke in 1:41.01.
- Eli Martin won the men's 200 breast in 1:54.84.
- Kaii Winkler took the men's 100 IM for NC State in 48.03.
- The Wolfpack also took the final two individual events of the session.
Evening Session
Women
- NC State women took seven of the eight available spots in tomorrow's event finals.
- Tyler Driscoll and Erika Pelaez won the 50 fly in 23.37 and 23.65, respectively.
- Leah Shackley and Kennedy Noble took the top two spots in the 50 backstroke.
- Eneli Jefimova won the 50 breaststroke again.
- NC State's Cassie Moses and Lily Christianson took the top two spots in the 50 free.
- Pelaez won the 400 IM, setting a new pool record time.
- Shackley finished 2nd in the 100 fly, and won the 100 back.
- Ohio State's Rachel Bockrath won the 100 freestyle.
- Jefimova won the women's 100 breaststroke.
Men
- NC State men took most of the 50 spots for tomorrow's final.
- Hudson Williams and Quintin McCarty took the top two spots in the 50 backstroke.
- Arsen Kozhakhmetov won the 50 breast.
- Jerry Fox was the final top seed for the Wolfpack with his win in the 50 freestyle.
- Matthew Klinge won the 50 fly.
- Kaii Winkler won the men's 100 free.
- OSU's Matthew Klinge won the men's 100 fly.
- Hudson Williams won the men's 100 backstroke.
- Tristan Jankovics won the men's 400 IM for Ohio State.
